https://lexihide.photo/About &nbsp; Lexi Hide (b. 1999) is a photographic artist born in Cape Town, South Africa. She completed her undergraduate degree in Motion Design before receiving an honours degree in Contemporary Art from Cape Town Creative Academy in 2023. In 2026, she completed her MFA in photography at Parsons School of Design in New York, where she is based.&nbsp; Hide is ultimately interested in contradictions, dualisms and self-aware hypocrisy. She states that nothing that is only one thing is interesting to her. She uses staged narrative photography to explore predominantly the themes girlhood and memory with a playfully humorous and tragic approach. Hide feels she mainly looks to cinema and music for influence; following threads of interest that all end up leading back to one another, and hopes this permeates the feeling of her work. Hide has been featured in numerous group shows both within South Africa and internationally. Notable exhibitions include Try a Little Tenderness: Oath Magazine Cape Town in 2021, Imagenation Paris at Galerie Joseph Le Palais in 2023. Her work has also been shown at Pingyao International Photography Festival and the American Center of Photography, North Carolina, both in 2024, Training Terrain at Demo Projects in Cape Town in 2025, and Photoville New York City in both 2025 and 2026. Hide presented a solo cubicle show titled Sugar for the Pill at Everard Read Cape Town in August 2024. Her work has been physically published in Doxy Magazine Issue 3, Bias Cut Magazine, group book publications by Soft Publishing and Lyricalmyrical Books, and online in Dazed magazine in 2025 and on PhotoVogue in 2026. In 2026, her work has been included in Jaipur International Art Week in India, the PhotoVogue Festival in Milan — where she was selected as a finalist for the 2025 Women on Women Open Call — Women on Women in Seoul, Oracle in the Aperture at the Lightwork Foundation in Syracuse, the Photographic Exploration Project in Berlin, Luishi International Photography Festival in China, Artphellian in Switzerland, Girls! Girls! Girls! gallery in Cape Town, Once Again, Many Times More at Gallery MC in New York City, the Kolga Tbilisi International Photography Festival in Georgia, and numerous group shows at Everard Read in both Cape Town and Franschhoek over the years. Lexi is open to proposals for commissions, collaborations, features and exhibition. I am no longer a teenager, but I feel like I am, or I wish to be, maybe. Memories are a lie, nostalgia is a trick. It wasn’t that good, it was plagued by newfound intense emotion I hadn’t weathered to yet. Or maybe it was? In high school, it is easy to have the new best night of your life, and I feel like it happened all the time. I had a very close-knit group of female friends. Every weekend we would buy bottom-of-the-barrel wine from the minimart on the corner and go down to the beach at night. Later one of us might be throwing up out of the back of a car a drunk friend was driving. It seems insane now, but it was pure fun then. First love, listening to indie music and smoking cigarettes with the shower turned on. But also first heartbreak, coerced sexual encounters and expulsion. It was all very dramatic. We modelled our lives after adolescent films such as Palo Alto and, less aggressively, Kids. Reality mimicking fiction. I have been revealed to myself as trying to model my film-like photo scenes after my own adolescence, mimicking reality mimicking fiction. Wreckless abandonment, lack of embarrassment, maybe there is something great about your prefrontal cortex not being fully formed. &nbsp;Sugar for the Pill was exhibited at Everard Read Cape Town in August 2024 as well as at the Photovogue festival in Milan and Seoul during May 2026. 23:48:44 +0000 Lexi Hide https://lexihide.photo/Everybody-Around-Me-Dancing Everybody Around Me Dancing2024 - ongoing I stand at the back of the party, not really at the party. I am there to look for a place, or a person, to come back to later, alone, in silence and in the daytime, to make a picture. Through highly controlled fictionalised scenes, I investigate the way in which we interact with images on a daily basis through their creation, consumption, and proliferation. I used to think I went out to have fun. Now I realise I go out to collect material, that is the fun for me. Through making the fictionalised image, the scene becomes real, and once it is real I am inside it the way I am inside every image I consume - projecting myself onto it, projecting it onto others. I am watching the room like a movie and the room is watching me too. <img width="10928" height="8736" width_o="10928" height_o="8736" data-src="https://freight.cargo.site/t/original/i/8e3b183da6dcccfe952301f6a81c0fa274678498541a012c8485216159f7eb71/Bunny-glowstick-small.jpg" data-mid="247860367" border="0" src="https://freight.cargo.site/w/1000/i/8e3b183da6dcccfe952301f6a81c0fa274678498541a012c8485216159f7eb71/Bunny-glowstick-small.jpg" /><img width="8670" height="6935" width_o="8670" height_o="6935" data-src="https://freight.cargo.site/t/original/i/b94681d963aaf07e9c1a996f7a6527939a073a54f4d5725c1cb5d6c0f6978a07/LexiHide_Leaving-Here-Still-small.jpg" data-mid="247860370" border="0" src="https://freight.cargo.site/w/1000/i/b94681d963aaf07e9c1a996f7a6527939a073a54f4d5725c1cb5d6c0f6978a07/LexiHide_Leaving-Here-Still-small.jpg" /><img width="5600" height="4479" width_o="5600" height_o="4479" data-src="https://freight.cargo.site/t/original/i/cbe1c867eec5f94c63210f8258b7de5b2ee4407ca3d4fb25ce0b1e1197400d39/DSCF0087-copy-small.jpg" data-mid="247860368" border="0" src="https://freight.cargo.site/w/1000/i/cbe1c867eec5f94c63210f8258b7de5b2ee4407ca3d4fb25ce0b1e1197400d39/DSCF0087-copy-small.jpg" /><img width="7200" height="5760" width_o="7200" height_o="5760" data-src="https://freight.cargo.site/t/original/i/071a6af0899e5c18e5f8cef95680f18cdac87753f53cea773df9388e768ff557/04_HIDE_LEXI-small.jpeg" data-mid="252879217" border="0" src="https://freight.cargo.site/w/1000/i/071a6af0899e5c18e5f8cef95680f18cdac87753f53cea773df9388e768ff557/04_HIDE_LEXI-small.jpeg" /><img width="8344" height="6675" width_o="8344" height_o="6675" data-src="https://freight.cargo.site/t/original/i/0e7d3146266bc22f28088cfb7e336b43f8fff7bcbad8891a7ae73031807fb4e1/SP263b-small.jpg" data-mid="247860371" border="0" src="https://freight.cargo.site/w/1000/i/0e7d3146266bc22f28088cfb7e336b43f8fff7bcbad8891a7ae73031807fb4e1/SP263b-small.jpg" /><img width="7770" height="6216" width_o="7770" height_o="6216" data-src="https://freight.cargo.site/t/original/i/fcecc0d9aed7673823f3c605f2dcca362d2f44cc33a9dfd9fbf1d66fe3cb36b3/Look-at-You.jpg" data-mid="252879458" border="0" src="https://freight.cargo.site/w/1000/i/fcecc0d9aed7673823f3c605f2dcca362d2f44cc33a9dfd9fbf1d66fe3cb36b3/Look-at-You.jpg" /><img width="3600" height="2880" width_o="3600" height_o="2880" data-src="https://freight.cargo.site/t/original/i/65b1bd102a1f97badbfc6c3a93d7226cdc9a86da8ebbf5860b91376b49046e75/09_HIDE_LEXI-small.jpeg" data-mid="252879219" border="0" src="https://freight.cargo.site/w/1000/i/65b1bd102a1f97badbfc6c3a93d7226cdc9a86da8ebbf5860b91376b49046e75/09_HIDE_LEXI-small.jpeg" /><img width="8146" height="6516" width_o="8146" height_o="6516" data-src="https://freight.cargo.site/t/original/i/6ec8a86f6b01eaf873f9ec33a8f9aa11ea9f834cb5e79c2222fc2d63a3415592/drone-008-small.jpeg" data-mid="252879220" border="0" src="https://freight.cargo.site/w/1000/i/6ec8a86f6b01eaf873f9ec33a8f9aa11ea9f834cb5e79c2222fc2d63a3415592/drone-008-small.jpeg" /><img width="7200" height="5759" width_o="7200" height_o="5759" data-src="https://freight.cargo.site/t/original/i/a65487d2181eba9db984d8e8509e0a8279aa3f41d4aa4301741254760ef9f79d/01_HIDE_LEXI-small.jpeg" data-mid="252879215" border="0" src="https://freight.cargo.site/w/1000/i/a65487d2181eba9db984d8e8509e0a8279aa3f41d4aa4301741254760ef9f79d/01_HIDE_LEXI-small.jpeg" /><img width="7200" height="5759" width_o="7200" height_o="5759" data-src="https://freight.cargo.site/t/original/i/f12fda4ea35c8f4b9deafa20e65fbc464559b2dc98e416f3a42469335877aba5/08_HIDE_LEXI-small.jpeg" data-mid="252879218" border="0" src="https://freight.cargo.site/w/1000/i/f12fda4ea35c8f4b9deafa20e65fbc464559b2dc98e416f3a42469335877aba5/08_HIDE_LEXI-small.jpeg" /><img width="7788" height="6230" width_o="7788" height_o="6230" data-src="https://freight.cargo.site/t/original/i/b5b4c5b5e5ba81aa2d34136087a35881db4eaf1fad15115547b844e695e8ee4b/hair-005-small.jpeg" data-mid="252879221" border="0" src="https://freight.cargo.site/w/1000/i/b5b4c5b5e5ba81aa2d34136087a35881db4eaf1fad15115547b844e695e8ee4b/hair-005-small.jpeg" /><img width="7200" height="5760" width_o="7200" height_o="5760" data-src="https://freight.cargo.site/t/original/i/16e10e1638e9d811391a7a3f3fa889289593f758fcbb56610b2f988fca0d8545/02_HIDE_LEXI-small.jpeg" data-mid="252879216" border="0" src="https://freight.cargo.site/w/1000/i/16e10e1638e9d811391a7a3f3fa889289593f758fcbb56610b2f988fca0d8545/02_HIDE_LEXI-small.jpeg" /><img width="1280" height="1024" width_o="1280" height_o="1024" data-src="https://freight.cargo.site/t/original/i/a934961e197211a95621714d52783540b97591e627c9805ed2a6ee0c7d538af9/Isolina-lake-2-more-muted-Large.jpeg" data-mid="237268686" border="0" src="https://freight.cargo.site/w/1000/i/a934961e197211a95621714d52783540b97591e627c9805ed2a6ee0c7d538af9/Isolina-lake-2-more-muted-Large.jpeg" />&nbsp;
